Nail Salon Workers

OHC is working with nail salon workers to improve health and safety awareness among workers and owners of nail salons from the Vietnamese community in Winnipeg. Through this project OHC will:

  • provide health and safety training in Vietnamese to nail salon workers
  • disseminate health and safety resources in both English and Vietnamese to both workers and owners of nail salons in Winnipeg.

This project is supported by a grant from the Research and Workplace Innovation Program of the Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba.

Below are the information and resources developed to date.

Jan 28th Implementing Workplace COVID-19 Safety Plans Webinar

Jan 28, 2021 | 9:30 am - 11:00 am

OHC Webinar:

Implementing Workplace COVID-19 Safety Plans: Mind Your Gaps Please

presented by Geoffrey Thompson, OHN, Occupational Health Centre

If you’re open for business in Manitoba and you have workers on or offsite then you are required to already have a functioning COVID-19 safety plan in place. But are you meeting your targets?

Let’s dive in the deep-end together as we identify common gaps, interpersonal challenges and system-level barriers that undermine the effective implementation of COVID-19 safety plans. We’ll review practical solutions and strategies you can use to retool your existing safety plans with the goal of protecting the health and wellbeing of your workforce while also meeting your goals.

In this session we will:

  • Outline the essential nuts and bolts of every provincially mandated workplace COVID-19 safety plan based on key concepts of assessing risks, identifying hazards and controlling for both
  • Identify approaches that improve the likelihood of stakeholder buy-in and desired behaviour changes that will reduce COVID-19 transmission rates in your workplace
  • Reflect on strategies that incorporate interpersonal and psychosocial factors. These will help you meet your workplace targets and supercharge your COVID-19 safety plan and help it “stick” in the long-run
  • Use lessons learned from this session to cross-connect and enhance other health and safety priorities in your workplace.
